David Camarillo and Rhadi Ferguson Unleash New Product

Auto Date Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

The Judo Crusader is pleased to announce that David Camarillo and Rhadi Ferguson’s new project - The Experience will be released within the next 90 days.

The Experience catalogs our experiences before and after the 1999 Korean Open as we were trying to make the 2000 Olympic Team and we failed miserably. We were so close yet so far.

The Experience is a story of triumph. A lot of people tell  you about where they are now, but they don’t expose how they were “back then”.

The Experience is a celebration in learning, growing, achieving and knowing.

It was a very awesome project to make. I new Dave was good the first time I saw him compete and I new he was vicious the second time I saw him compete in Korea when he popped his competitors left arm and right arm in the same match. It was CRUCIAL!!

The Judo Crusader highly recommends this DVD and encourages you to make sure that you receive notification of when its going to be released by signing up a Grappling University –>  www.grapplinguniversity.com

Pick ‘em up and Put ‘em down….

Auto Date Friday, February 23rd, 2007

Just so that you know, the Judo Crusader has always been intrigued by the European style of Judo.  It’s rough, tough and explosive. Judo period is explosive, but the hard core European style is very appealing.

As a young crusader, the Judo Crusader learned judo the standard traditionaly way, but as I matured, I added a lot of things to my game. Things like wrestling, brazilian jiujitsu, gripfighting and styles which I fancied.

One of my favorite judo players of all time is Robert Van de Walle. He was known for his strength and technique and for his very powerful Morote Gari, also known as the double leg takedown.

The Double Leg

The Judo Crusader is known all over the grappling and judo world for his double leg takedown and while I definitely recommend that you should learn it, I really recommend that you learn it correctly.

In the video clip that I’ve included, I’ve included a couple throws using morote gari. Some people were successful and some were not. Can you tell me why the successful people were successful and why the other person was not.

If you can answer this question right, I have a $100.00 just for you. Ths contest will run until February, 28th.  You won’t want to miss this.

Training Last Night Was (hard as hell) Great!

Auto Date Thursday, February 22nd, 2007

The Judo Crusader went to practice last night and he had his friend and client with him Taraje Williams-Murray.  The practice was hard and challenging but great.  The Judo Crusader felt like he was back in the “mix” for a second. But he was slightly upset by something that he saw.

There’s this one judo player who is currently fighting who just cannot seem to get to practice on time. The Judo Crusader wanted to tell him what he will tell you.

If you are going to be a professional you need to act like a professional. That means you need to be on time and do what you are supposed to do when you are supposed to do it.  This one judo player comes to practice late everyday and only practices for 45 minutes.  YOU CANNOT go to “the show” by just doing the last 30 minutes of practice.  It provides you with a false sense of security. You think that you are better than what you are because you are fighting against people who are tired and have been practicing for hours.

The Judo Crusader wants to let you know that if you are one of these people then you really need to take the time and get the The Gold Mettle Plan so that you can make sure that you or your student contain the imperatives in order to achieve high levels of success on the mat  –> www.goldmettleplanpackage.com

My friend 2004 Olympian and 3x National Champion Taraje Williams-Murray also noticed the lack of seriousness by this one competitor. And that is why I came up with The Gold Mettle Plan. The fact of the matter is that tomorrow anyone can be a CONTENDER, but many are only PRETENDERS. And often times the difference between the two are really hard to spot (in others and yourself). But now you don’t have to guess about what things have to be done in order to become a champion.

What I used to love about Muhammad Ali!

Auto Date Wednesday, February 21st, 2007

I’m sure you all know who Muhammad Ali is, but if you don’t - HE is the greatest boxer of all time.  Now here’ the funny thing. Muhammad Ali NEVER waited for someone to call him THE GREATEST. He called himself THE GREATEST first and then everyone followed suit.

And the thing that people don’t understand is this - Ali had to believe he was The Greatest before anybody else did. And once he did that, he became The Greatest.

This thing that Muhammad Ali did wasn’t a promotional ploy, a marketing ploy or an act. It was a deliberate self talk exercise that Muhammad Ali performed so that he could live up to his thoughts about himself.  He was a genius because he KNEW what it took to become a champion. And while he was talking himself up - his opponents were talking him down instead of talking themselves up to. And they got so caught up in the negative talk that it began to hurt their performance.

You have to think and speak positively about  yourself and your grappling career. DON’T EVER LET ANYONE TELL YOU THAT YOU ARE NOT GOOD OR THAT YOU CANNOT DO SOMETHING.  Its those kinds of people who feel that they have to validate you in order for you to be who YOU know you can be.

SCREW ‘EM!!  Practice hard, train, eat right, respect yourself, your friend and family, and believe that you can do what you set your mind to.

If you need some help in this area or a small kick in the pants, then The Judo Crusader highly recommends www.accuratethinking.net  his Accurate Thinking Package for Grapplers and Coaches.

Take care and remember - YOU ARE THE GREATEST!!

I believe that if you teach a move YOU SHOULD KNOW THE DEFENSE or you should not teach it!!

Auto Date Tuesday, February 20th, 2007

Imagine if you went to Home Depot or any of the “big box” stores and they sold you a door lock but they didn’t sell you the key.  No, really, imagine that.

Imagine that you get to the cashier and the cashier says, “Door lock. $39.99.  And sir, would  you like the key with that?” You’d probably look at the cashier like they had an extra ear in the middle of their foreheard.

It’s silly concept, but you would be surprised how many Judo instructors do this.

Look, from now on we are going to be completely honest about what it takes to become a good grappler.  As the Judo Crusader, my job is to save everyone from the abyss of ignorance and lift them up to a higher plane and level of understanding.

It is also to crush, eliminate and eradicate the martial arts world of the traditionalists that are holding back the development of new and innovative ways to improve and get good in sport. Now, I’m not against all tradition, just against the traditionalist that don’t have an open mind and the desire to learn something new.

Alot of people forget that before a tradition became a tradition it started as new sh*t.  That’s the truth, but nobody wants to accept that.

So now that I’m here and on the scene I want you to know, understand and feel where I’m coming from.

So next time you are in class and you learn a move. Please BE RESPECTFUL and learn the move. After you have learned the move ask your instructor the defense for the move.

If your instructor says, “DON’T GET IN IT!”  It is time for you to change schools. That’s an unprofessional answer and it is the equivalent to selling you a lock - WITHOUT THE KEY!!

Up Up And Awaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyy.

I believe that our sport needs a league of Crusaders to go out and start blogging, writing, advertising, promoting, supporting and helping out the sport of judo

Auto Date Saturday, February 17th, 2007

I believe that our sport needs a league of Crusaders to go out and start blogging, writing, advertising, promoting, supporting and helping out the sport of judo.

In the age of the Internet I believe this to be true more than ever. If you support the ideals in my post below and  you are a Judo Crusader then please post your comment below and include your website address and name and I will add it to the link of Crusaders to the right. (All I ask it that you provide a link from your site to mine in a timely fashion.) This will enable all of THE CRUSADERS to form a massive movement and show the world what we believe.

You can be a Crusader if you practice Judo, Brazilian Jiujitsu or Submission Wrestling. All you have to do is believe in the fusion of the sport. That means is you are a mixed martial artist you are ALREADY a believer.

I KNOW that wrestling, BJJ, Judo, and Sambo go hand-in-hand. The dumbos and traditionalist will have you think otherwise. I’m not sure when they are gonna wake up and turn on the television but the fusion is here. The blend is here. The Rhadi Ferguson’s, David Camarillo’s and Lloyd Irvin’s of the world are here.

Judo players like Flavio Canto is living proof in the fusion. Judokas like Rhadi Ferguson are living proof.

So if you are a JUDO CRUSADER then let me know and I will put your name (or your club’s name) to the right and we can promote, advertise, and SUPPORT our sport!!

Judo Crusader, why Newaza first?

Auto Date Thursday, February 15th, 2007

Well, lets look at Judo for a second. What’s the first thing that we are taught in judo.

1. We are taught how to roll

2. We are taught how to fall

But we aren’t taught what to do when we get there.  And the two biggest problems in judo are retention and recruitment.

The BJJ guys goes to his first BJJ lesson and goes home and can IMMEDIATELY wrestle around and beat his friends with the new stuff that he’s learned and believes in the POWER of jiujitsu.

The taekwondo student goes to practice and goes home with a cool “getup” and outfit and some stances, feints and punches that he/she believes works.

The judo player goes to practice  and comes back home and his friends ask him what he’s learned and he says, “Well, we learned how to fall today.” And his friends say, “Again? Bro., this is your fifth class. Show us a move?”

And then when he does learn a move, he’s informed that it will take 20 years to actually perfect the move. That doesn’t do a great deal for retention. And it’s not the best way to learn. The Judo Crusader believes that we need to learn from the ground up. Newaza is easier to learn than tachiwaza and its something that the practitioner can learn very quickly and develop a high degree of proficiency. Rather than hoping to gain a high degree of proficiency at standing (which may or may not happen) and have 0% groundwork.

There are many other reasons and the Judo Crusader covers these in upcoming projects. The Judo Crusader covered this in depth at his Secrets to Judo Success Seminar last year at Bedroc Judo Club.

Who am I and Why am I here?

Auto Date Wednesday, February 14th, 2007

Judo%20Crusader%20Flying%20small Who am I and Why am I here?

  • I believe in the fusion of Brazilian Jiujitsu and Judo
  • I believe that Newaza should be taught first and tachiwaza second
  • I believe young athletes need to learn armbars and chokes before they can do them in Judo competition so that when they become of age they can be proficient
  • I believe that wrestling is a perfect addition to a judoka background
  • I don’t believe in traveling all across the globe to practice and train unless you have exhausted all of your homeland resources (i.e. strength practices, conditioning, plannnig, resource management, tools, DVDs, books, study materials, watching film). That way your travel can be looked at as an investment and not a waste of money
  • I believe that our sport needs a league of Crusaders to go out and start blogging, writing, advertising, promoting, supporting and helping out the sport of judo.
  • I believe we can show our support by become active participants in our judo organizations.
  • I believe that all Brazilian Jiujitsu practitioners should cross train in judo and that all judo practitioners should cross train in BJJ at some time in their career to create a great level of respect for the sport. Hell, they come from the same root, it only makes sense.
  • I believe that there is more to Judo than just doing judo.
  • I DO NOT BELIEVE IN THE TERMS “good judo” or “bad judo”. All judo is good. The only bad judo is the kind you do when you’re talking. Talking judo SUCKS!!  If you practice SPORT JUDO that means your desire is to have “winning judo”.
  • I believe that traditionalist suck and the status quo is holding us back.
  • I believe that people like David Camarillo, Karo Parisyan, Lloyd Irvin, Flavio Canto, Leo Leite, Winston Gordon, and Rhadi Ferguson are pioneers and the new breed of grappler
  • I believe you can improve your judo by doing judo
  • I believe you can improve your judo by not doing judo
  • I believe that there are many ways to improve
  • I believe that if  you teach a move YOU SHOULD KNOW THE DEFENSE or you should not teach it!!
  • I believe that if  you teach a move YOU SHOULD KNOW THE DEFENSE or you should not teach it!!I believe that if  you teach a move YOU SHOULD KNOW THE DEFENSE or you should not teach it!!
  • I believe that if  you teach a move YOU SHOULD KNOW THE DEFENSE or you should not teach it!!I do not believe that saying, “You shouldn’t get caught in it” is the proper advice for defending
  • I do not believe that Brazilian Jiujitsu is just JudoI do not believe that Judo is Brazilian Jiujitsu
  • I believe there are many people who want to see the grappling arts grow and that includes Judo.I also believe some people get so caught up in the pursuit of the Olympics that they forget that there are more people who are NOT training for the Olympic Games than those who are and those people NEED attention too!!
  • I believe that the grassroots movement is THE MOST IMPORTANT movement for Judo!!!!!I believe that judo needs an initiative to invite the mixed martial arts world, the submission wrestling world and the brazilian jiujitsu world into our world so that we can all learn from each other.THIS IS THE CRUSADE OF THE JUDO CRUSADER. WILL YOU JOIN ME? WILL YOU BE A CRUSADER TOO?

Help me to fight against the status quo!

What You Must Do To Maximize The Benefits of Crosstraining (part 3)

Auto Date Monday, February 12th, 2007

Have you ever had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich?

If you have, you know that there’s nothing worse than having a sandwich that has too much peanut butter and too little jelly or too much jelly and too little peanut butter. You know that this can be upsetting. It can leave you with an undesired sandwich.  The key is to understand that peanut butter goes with jelly and jelly goes with peanut butter and that its a process of integration that brings them together.

So after you cros-train you must actualize and realize the cross-training benefits by appropriately integrating the techniques that you’ve learned with your sport and put the things together that go together.

The final benefit is Integration. Peanut Butter in the jar and jelly in the jar doesn’t do YOU any good. YOU must spread the apply the techniques on the bread and then put the ‘pieces’ of bread together.

The key is Integration!

What You Must Do To Grab The Benefits of Crosstraining (part 2)

Auto Date Thursday, February 8th, 2007

This piece of information will be critical to your success in terms of crosstraining. It will allow you to fully reap the benefits of placing yourself in an environment which is different from the one that you know but beneficial to the one which you spend the bulk of your time.

The major key to reaping the benefits of crosstraining is to rid yourself of the preconceived notions of what YOU BELIEVE works and what you don’t believe works for or in your sport.

I remember that I used to go to BJJ practice and say, “This stuff won’t work. It’s just entirely too slow and in judo you don’t have that time on the mai!”. That was the dumbest thing I could have ever said because those are the same techniques that worked for me in Judo competitions.  I didn’t recognize back then that speed is a by-product of proficiency and efficiency. The more proficient that I became at a technique, the more efficient my movements were. And as my movements became efficient, my game became economical and at that occured I could spend more energy doing the right movements and I just “seemed” faster and I was faster as well because I eliminated the wasted movements.

You must clear your mind of preconceived notions and totally thrust yourself into the training environment. Otherwise you will lose the opportunity to learn some valuable techniques.  Remember, learn everything and then throw out what you need.

The Judo Crusader’s saying for today is:

“IT’S BETTER TO HAVE IT AND NOT NEED IT, THAN TO NEED IT AND NOT HAVE IT!!”

Up, up and awayyyyyyy,

The Judo Crusader

P.S. Check out part 3 tomorrow.
