Lessons Learned From Venus Williams
======================

A couple of days ago, I recorded a very powerful
video concerning “Encouragement and Support”.
If you didn’t see it, I would highly encourage you
to go here

I had soooo many positive emails about that video
that I had to follow up with another one that really
struck a chord with me. I recently watched Venus
Williams in the 2011 Australian Open in the sport
of Tennis and she was injured and had to pull out of
her 3rd round match. I was shocked and surprised
when I hear people “boooo” her as she left the court.
I was inspired to shoot this video.

I cant figure out why you were shocked and surprised: the williams sisters dont have good reputations on the tennis circuit organisers.
I mean theyre not as despised as Andy Roddick but its a tad under.
Respect is a two way street as is communications between human beings. The father might have built winning machines like Tiger’s dad but once again failed to raise them as people.
Their act wears thin around the globe so unless you really dont follow the sport, I fail to see how this reaction can be surprising.
I do understand that being dependant on US based news source doesnt give us a view of how were perceived (I was in Rome and Athens in 1999, talking to family back home telling them about the half million greeks in the street protesting another US war and then later in Italy and being told that they werent aware of that. Its when i realized that freedom of press is highly overrated).
Listen to canadian, french, spanish and italian news… different world.

Of course, I dont know them as persons. it could be all I know of them are the bad things. Of course it is.
But being on the outside the family comes across as poor sports with lousy sportsmanship, excuses for every time they lose and come across as most petulant child prodigies. Its true that whether they are liked or not by most players on the tour is not something I would know except through the words of the media but in sports and especially judo we try to teach fair play, respect and humility and Id rather my son emulate an Eto’o than a Williams. Their behaviour is often a good lesson for kids in what NOT to do so there is lessons to be learned from them like you do as well.
