I certainly hope that during the holiday season that you are able to spend time with your family and loved ones and also reflect on those who were not as fortunate to be around this year and give thanks for the time that you have with one another and the time that you had to invest with others.
I also hope and pray that as this year comes to a close that you have much to be thankful for. I am very aware that times have been very hard economically speaking and that people are really financially lean at this particular time. I can certainly empathize with you. One of the things that I am so glad about is that the gasoline prices have fallen quite a bit because the grocery prices are still through the roof!
This year my family and I are spending time with each other and going to visit other families and also donate clothes and goods to other families. Now more than ever it is important to give.
My wife and I decided that during Christmas this year that we were going to get our son involved in giving and instead of buying each other gifts, we are going to give to those who are in need of some holiday cheer. We believe that it is the right thing to do and it will allow our son Rufus to see, early in life that it is better to give than to receive.

More On Giving

You all know that I pretty much share the ins and outs of my life with you and this email is no different.
I want you to know that I was very inspired during this years Presidential Campaign and I went out and registered people to vote, walked from house to house, drove people to the polls, attended rallies, went to viewing parties and I did all of this with my wife and my son. We had a phenomenal time working on the grassroots level, providing information and just helping people out.
I’m sure many of you know that I met a 92 year old lady by the name of Elisabeth who I visit once a week now. If you are not familiar with the story you can read about it here >>
Elisabeth is a sweet young lady and yesterday she called me and said, “Can you please come by, my television is not working.” So I stopped by her house and fixed her television, which was a remote control programming issue and then I went to wrestling practice.
Yep, that’s right. Wrestling practice.
I am now a Volunteer Wrestling Coach at Titusville High School in Florida and I’m loving it. The team lost last night and I almost cried. I’m finding myself getting emotionally involved with the team like I do with my professional clients. I told myself that I can’t do this roller coaster thing again, but here I am once again and its not even and Olympic year.
When I went to visit Elisabeth I was happy to see that the blinds in her home had been fixed and replaced. The place where she lives promised to fix her blinds over a year ago and they kept giving her the run around until I called the management company and straightened a few minor issues out. They were taking advantage of Elisabeth because she doesn’t have any family in the area or anyone to advocate for her.. well, not until now. My wife and I make sure that she’s taken care of.
So, that’s what’s been going on with me on a personal side. Well, that and my dissertation is like a rotating boot that keeps kickin’ me in the arse! Arrrrgggghhh!!!!
All in all, things have been great. God is good.

Black Friday
==============
The day after Thanksgiving is known as Black Friday.
On that day most stores and retailers provide huge ridiculous discounts for ONE DAY ONLY so that people can get a jump on their holiday shopping.
I’m going to extend my Black Friday (sa-le) for more than one day and I’m going to have a Black Friday 72 hour (sa-le) so that you can shop all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Why?
Well, I want you to have time to run to the store to get the things that you need and I want those people who have family in town to be able to spend time with their family and I want those who attend church on Sunday and relax to be able to do that. And I want you to watch all the football that you need to watch.
A couple of months ago I released an awesome video with 2X Olympian Taraje Williams-Murray called “Beyond The Rings”.
Because it is such an awesome piece of material for today’s athlete, coach or parent, I made sure that the DVD was under $20 and I even got rid of the shipping cost.
I’m sure many of you know that, this means that all of my international shipment are done at a loss, not a profit.
Why do I do this, even though I lose money?
Well, because even though business is about the money, my judo business, is not ALL about the money. There are many, many things that today’s judo player needs to know about the international competitive environment that no one else is sharing or providing. I want to provide that information to you.
I believe it is important for individuals to have an opportunity and a chance to look inside the world of an elite athlete and get a bird’s eye view of the daily training practices, their thought processes, their life management skills and the mental toughness that is necessary in order to excel at sport and life.
You cannot implement any “best practices” inside of your dojo or inside of your regimen, unless you know what those “best practices” are. And I’m here to tell you that it takes alot more than just “training hard”. You can get away with that on some levels, but not at the top levels of sport.
So what I’m here today to do is to ask you to watch these two Beyond The Rings promo videos that I just put up on youtube.
If you like them, please invest the $19.99 and get your copy today. Taraje and myself will be greatly appreciative. And please pass these links on to your friends and ask them to support this endeavor as well.
I have asked this question before, but never received a response. I think it is a question that anyone who has ‘The Grind’ would need to know the answer to. How do I effectively train the flying armbar you show against Nelson of Canada. I think it is on disk 4 and you walk through what you do (initial takedown attempt to get them to move their hips back, the tug down to get them to move, and then how you enter it, etc), but you never show how to train it (rep it our in practice) over and over. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Pete Pelter
ps – the armbar is worth the price of the set… if I learn how to train it!

Answer
============
This is how I train it.
The way that I do it, is the way that it is done by Kashiwazaki.
I can explain it but its really hard to “show” you and explain it to you over the internet. That is one of the limitations of the internet and why I still can go out and get seminar dates even with all the information that I put on the net
I can tell you this. You have to train it just like the regular armbar because YOU DO have to get used to jumping, inverting and unfortunately at times – hitting your head.
Here’s how Taraje practiced it.
Here’s how I practiced it.
Also, you must have a solid understanding of how to do the armbar from the guard first and how to do yoko tomoenage.
Hello as many of you know, I am constantly inundated with email throughout the day and I really try to answer each and every one of them.
Currently I direct all of the questions about martial arts, training and health and wellness to my site http://www.AskRhadi.com and there I gather up the questions and answer them in my email transmissions and blog posts.
Today question is a great one and one that I was really excited about answering.
Here is the question:
“I have a solid judo plan for my Judo Business using some of the techniques that I got from your Judo Success Secrets DVDs. I know I should be doing something else. What’s a good piece of advice you can give me for my club? And ideas?”
The answer to this question is right here

Here is the question:
Sometimes my Judo students come back from tournaments and show me videos of one of their matches and will ask for my conclusions.
To be honest with you, I’d like to “see” this other side of Judo that you talk about because, right now I can’t see how I can help them. I really don’t have anything to conclude. I used to tell them that they had to train harder, but after listening to you I now feel like that piece of information is only part of what they need – and is really inadequate advice at that. How can I be of more use to my students?

Greetings. I hope you are doing well. I’m
very aware that today’s economy is causing
everyone to tighten up their belt buckle and
their pockets a bit and I understand.
As a matter of fact, I’m tightening up
some things myself.
And I’m also trying to create some products
that will allow you to actually save a great
deal of time and money in the long run.
As a matter of fact, Lia Hatashita of Hatashita
Sports and I just recently came up with a
new gi training device that is going to literally
knock your socks off.
The training tool will allow you to:
- Train with greater sports specificity and
purpose inside OR outside of the weight room
- Get more wear out of your gis for what they
are used for (you shouldn’t have to tear up the
thing which you need to most in order to train
and/or compete)
- Strengthen your grip strength and pulling
power like never before
- Inject “steroids” into your kuzushi
- Develop world class grip strength through
functional and sports specific training
- Totally maximize the use of Jimmy Pedro’s
Grip Like A World Champion DVD by actually
being able to have enough gripping strength and
endurance to implement a gripping system during
the ENTIRE TOURNAMENT ( http://www.GripLikeAWorldChampion.com )
This tool was developed by Lia Hatashita and myself,
Rhadi Ferguson, because I understand exactly what
the gi practitioner needs in order to be successful
on the mat.
And I also know the weaknesses of today’s
training tools. They don’t look and feel like the
real thing.
What Lia and I have created, looks and feels like
the real deal.
You will develop grip strength like never before.
As a matter of fact, this same tool is being used
today – RIGHT NOW – at the United States Olympic
Training Center. The reason why I know is because
Lia Hatashita and I sent a couple of pair to the
strength and conditioning staff over there because
when I told them about the tool, they were excited.
The strength coach said, “That’s an absolutely
wonderful idea. The way we do our uchikomi in
the gym right now is horrible because when we do
them fast with the band, the gi slaps us in the face,
but with these that will absolutely solve our problem
and we won’t get slapped when we do our explosive
pulls.”
That coach was excited and you will be to once
you get your hands on our new product……..
the Power Sleeves.
