I remember what it used to feel
like when I was walking to the
competition area in my earlier
judo days. All types of thoughts
would run through my mind.

I would think to myself -

“I’m going to go out there and
hit “the double leg” / morote gari
takedown as soon as the ref says
hajime”

or

“I’m gonna get him to the ground
and use my newaza and win”.

The bottom line is that millions
of thoughts race through your
mind before you get to the line
and the referee says hajime.

The only problem with all of this
pre match analysis is that it is
highly distracting and it is similar
to having someone “interrupt your
conversation everytime you are
trying to speak”.

Here’s what I mean.

Your mind HAS TO BE FOCUSED
on the task at hand.

That number one task is WINNING
(I’m talking about competition here,
not judo practice.)

The only pre- match analysis that
should be taking place in your
mind is the one that you’ve done
on your scouting report.
