How To Close The Door On Your Opponents Judo

Auto Date Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

============
Introduction
============

My son is now 2 years old and I got to admit, he’s a cute little guy and very smart too.

I think at this particular stage of my life that I learn more from him than he does from me. Yesterday I was playing a game of hide-and-seek with my son.
I was chasing him around from room-to-room and he would hide in each room.

Every time that he would hide I would find him in the closet.

I knew he was going in the closet; because that’s his favorite hide out.

I would go from one room, to the next, and when I arrived, I acted like I didn’t know where he was. I would go in the room and say, “Now where is Rufus?”

I could hear him laughing, but I just looked everywhere else….. The bathroom, under the bed, under the sheets and then I would say, “I know where you are!” and then I would find him in the closet.

We did this numerous times and he laughed and laughed, but I surprised him and confused him the same way you can surprise and confuse your opponents, if you want to.

If you aren’t interested in learning how to win more matches or get better at judo, then I guess, here is where you can stop reading but if you are interested then keep reading…..

=============
Competition Secret
That Will Make You
Unstoppable
=============

When my son was running back from room to room, I knew what his tendencies where.

I actually let him think that I didn’t know.

This created a situation for him where he felt comfortable.

Then I did something to him that totally confused him.

After he ran to one room, I closed the CLOSET door in the room he had just left.

And then when I found him in the other room, and he ran – I closed the CLOSET door too.

So when he ran in the room, he looked like a squirrel in the middle of the street darting back and forth.

He didn’t know where to go.

Well, this is the first thing that you must do and accomplish when you are learning how to scout the competition in judo.

============
First Step To
Scouting
============

Don’t try to watch a bunch of film and scout people you may or may not fight first.

First, use the people in your dojo. Fill out scouting reports on them and find all of their CLOSET DOORS. And then close them.

Now you can do this by yourself and bump your head against the wall, waste your time, and MAYBE understand how to do this.

Or you can cut your learning curve and save yourself some time and money by getting the Judo Scouting Reports Success System and learn how to do it quickly and easily.

You can get the know-how, the scouting report template and the information that you need so you can indentify the closet doors on your workout partners and CLOSE THEM!!

============
Why Should I
Do It On The People
That I Practice With
First?
=============

Great question.

Well its the same reason why you learned ippon seoinage in the dojo before you tried it in competition. YOU HAD TO LEARN IT and become familiar with it.

In this, you also need to learn it and become familiar with it and how to use it to your advantage.

Also by doing this, your practice partners will become better and thus your dojo will become a better place to practice. Because when you shut down the CLOSET DOOR, your partner will have to find another way to throw you. This will make everyone in the dojo better.

And you will become familiar, proficient and efficient with shutting people down and implementing your game plan at will.

================
So what’s the first step
=================

Well, first, to be honest with you…. You have to ask yourself……….”Do I Want To Get Better At Judo?”

If your answer is “YES!!”, well, then you need to get the Judo Scouting Reports Success System today.

I mean it is really that simple.

You can do that or you can continue to suffer, be frustrated, or not tap into all of your potential.

A good judo gi costs $190 dollars.

A plane ticket to a tournament costs $300 bucks!

The gas back and forth to a tournament is so expensive that right now it’s better to own and ride a horse! :-/

But the Judo Scouting Reports Success System can be in your hands and at your doorstep for only $1.

Right now I’m getting ready for the Olympic Trials. I’m preparing 2 players specifically for the Olympic Trials – Brian Picklo (http://www.BrianPicklo.us) and Taraje Williams-Murray.

Both of them have been scouting the competition vigorously and both of them understand the importance of scouting, ESPECIALLY Taraje. This dude lawnmowered through everybody at the Pan American Championship because he was physically and MENTALLY prepared. At this level of the game, ladies and gentleman, it’s not about who is more technical than the other person, it’s about who can shut the closet doors and who can open them.

That’s it.

Open the doors to a whole new world of judo for yourself and get your hands on the Judo Scouting Report Success System Today!

I had a super conversation with Cara Heads yesterday during her coaching call that I’m really seriously thinking about adding to the Beyond The Rings package when it is released.  She spoke very clearly about the emotions that occur for those that make the Olympic Team and those that do not. She even stressed the importance of making quality decisions for your life and heeding good advice and good counsel.

I was glad that she was able to make the coaching call last night. She had just left church, she was attending bible study. This was great because it put her mind and heart in a different place and that foundation made for a very enlightening, informative and rich conversation.  Now that I’m writing, I’m pretty much sold on the idea that it has to be added to the package. There’s no way that it shouldn’t be.  It was absolutely phenomenal.

If you haven’t yet signed up for the release of Beyond The Rings which will be an absolutely mind blowing and in-depth, behind the scenes look at training and preparation on another level, please do so at http://www.BeyondTheRings.com

Jeff Monson vs. Josh
Barnett
=================

For those of you that didn’t know former UFC Heavyweight Champion Josh Barnett fought former UFC top Heavyweight contender Jeff Monson in Japan on May 18th.

Jeff asked me about cornering for this fight but I had already committed to coaching Cara Heads at the Olympic Trials. Jeff now lives in England and in the United States.  But he spends a great deal of his time in England. I wish that he would come back to the US to train for his fights a little bit more. I certainly miss the practices that we used to have and I really think that he could use a good quality push in the right direction in terms of adding some new things to his fighting style.

I would like to see him add a low kick and a knee to his standup and a two or three new MMA guard passes. Now that Marcelo Garcia  is in the gym, I really think this is possible. (for those that haven’t seen Marcelo Garcia check out this video

At American Top Team (http://www.AmericanTopTeam.com) Marcelo Garcia has truly elevated everyone’s grappling game over there.

But like I said, I think Jeff can still improve, but he DOES need to improve and change some things. His style has been the same for years.

I wish I could have trained with him or trained him for this fight or for his next fight. I love Jeff, he’s a cool dude. I just want him to get another shot at the title or at least at Fedor, but it won’t happen like this…unfortunately :-(

P.S. I said it yesterday and I’ll say it again. If, and only if, you are SERIOUSLY interested in improving at judo, please get The Judo Scouting Reports package.  I’m not sure why anyone wouldn’t get the package, but hey, some folks are gluttons for punishment and they really enjoy losing. If that’s you, then please don’t let me stop you from taking your lumps. If you want them, there are plenty of people who will be more than willing to dish them out. But if you are tired of taking unnecessary lumps, losing when you don’t have to and not securing the wins that you know you should have OR if you just want to start thrashing and frustrating your friends at the dojo, then this is the package you need –> http://www.JudoScoutingReport.com

This package was designed by 1999 World Judo Champion, Jimmy Pedro and by yours truly, The Judo Crusader.

P.P.S. Just get the package already.  If you coach or play judo it’s absolutely NECESSARY. And there is nobody else besides Jimmy and I have actually sat down and constructed a package that will show you EXACTLY how to break your opponents down, dissect them and beat them.  So get it, get it now –> http://www.JudoScoutingReport.com

A Whole New World Of Judo…

==============
Introduction
==============

This week has been super exciting and super intense. I had the pleasure and privilege to connect on a deeper level with one of my clients this week. Often times in the coach/athlete relationship trust has to be grown. What I mean when I say grown is that it has to be husbanded and gardened. It is a process where you have to give in order to get.

When it comes to athletes, often times they have to trust you in order to work with you. Yes, they can do some of the things that you advise, and they can perform some tasks well, but when it comes to a point where they don’t understand that command or the request that you are giving them, here is where trust is important. Because there will be a time in the relationship where they don’t necessarily understand why they are doing what they are doing but they have to do it anyway. Here is where it is important to have built up a good amount of trust in the trust account.

On Sunday through Thursday I had the opportunity to work with 2007 Pan Am Team Member, 2007 World Team Member and 2007 National Champion Asma Sharif. Asma was a former student of Derrick Kerr and now she is a member of Jimmy Pedro’s Team Force.

Asma came down to Boca Raton for her first visit in preparation for the 2012 Games in London and she received the red carpet treatment.

After arriving at the airport in Fort Lauderdale she was picked up by a Lincoln Town Car and then was taken to her hotel and after that we had our first Judo session.

I think Asma did more non-physical judo training than she ever did in her life. I remember her saying, “I wish I would have known some of this stuff earlier. This stuff is amazing. I’m glad that I came to see for myself.” Asma had 5 training sessions a day. Two were “chalk talk” sessions, one was a physical training session and the other was a technical/gripping session and then she had a physical therapy/rehab session for her ACL rehab. Asma’s day started bright and early at 5:30 am. And she was ready to go every morning, with ZERO complaints about being tired and ZERO complaints about being sore. I was super impressed.

I’m really looking forward to working with Asma in the next 4 years. She is super intelligent, very physical and a quick learner.

==============
She said, “I didn’t
know there was this
much to the half guard”
===============

I took Asma to Brazilian Jiujitsu practice at American Top Team where I had a training session with a friend of mine who is preparing for the 2008 Mundials (Brazilian Jiujitsu World Championships). He showed me a new 1/2 guard pass that is phenomenal and he and I drilled and sparred just on the pass that he showed me so that he and I could learn all of the ins and outs and nooks and crannies of the position. We rolled for about 1 hours and Asma had the opportunity to observe the training.

This was Asma’s first time at Brazilian Jiujitsu practice and she was absolutely amazed at the level of technique by the people on the mat. After practice Asma said, “I didn’t know that you knew that much about mat work.” I laughed and told her, “Well if you believe what some of the folks in judo say, I don’t know anything.” And we both laughed. Contrary to what some people believe, they don’t give out Black Belts in Brazilian Jiujitsu :-) They are earned.

Asma said that she would really be interested in improving her mat work and at least trying to get to a high blue belt or low purple belt level by 2010. I told her that that is truly possible and that we just have see where all the training fits in based upon the needs analysis which we interactively created for her during the 4 year cycle.

==============
Impressed
==============

Asma and I did a 40 minute grip fighting session where she was dog tired but she didn’t stop. At one point she put her hands on her head and said, “My body is tired, I need to rest.” To which I replied, “You mean to tell me that you are going to let your body tell you what to do?” She replied, “No” and then punched me in the face while gripping me. I was IMPRESSED!!

===============
What’s next?
===============

Well, what’s next is that Brian Picklo will be coming down to South Florida next week. Brian is a student of Pat Burris and this will be his second trip down to the sunshine state to work on strategic and tactical implementation for the trials and to work on some scouting of the individuals on his side of the bracket. Last time Brian visit we created a system that, in my opinion, is unstoppable. I truly believe that Brian Picklo will win the Olympic Trials at 100kg. He will be better prepared than his competition and it will be a good day for the Judo Crusader, for Brian Picklo. for Pat Burris and USA Stars.

===============
Super Busy!!
===============

To say that I’ve been super busy with coaching is an understatement but I love it. The only bummer is that this time of the year is super stressful on my little guy. My son, doesn’t get to spend as much time with me or me with him during the Olympic year which is filled with the Olympics, the Trials and the Qualifications and preparation process. But that’s how it is. And I still have my other clients – my 1/2 marathoners, my weight loss group, my bjj clients and my business & marketing students. Sometimes in this juggling act, I get nervous that I’m going to drop a ball, but I don’t. I’ve been able to develop great hand and eye coordination. :-)

============
Introduction
============

I just got done doing one heckuva workout with former All-American Wrestler and Olympic Trials Judo Qualifier Brian Picklo.

I’m pretty pooped and tired and now I’m on my way to Miami, Florida for the Pan American Championships today.

Today is going to be super exciting. There are a couple, well more than a couple of World Champions and Olympic Medalists fighting today. Somebody asked me yesterday, if I miss competing and I must say that I DO NOT!!! What I miss…. are the people. I’ve developed so many friendships and relationships during my competition days that its just good to see the coaches and players that I used to globe trot with.

===========
Qualifying for
The Games
===========

This tournament is so important because it is an Olympic Qualifying tournament. If some people don’t do well this weekend, their Olympic hopes and dreams will go down the tubes. It happens. I’ve been there before, but I wish it on no one. It is a bitter fruit that yield much nourishment but little pleasure to the emotional palate.

I certainly would love to see some great judo today, but I don’t want to see the people who are going to, unfortunately leave with shattered dreams and a tattered body. But such is life. That is the other side of the Olympics that nobody sees.

Take care, I gotta go,

Rhadi Ferguson

P.S. Make sure you check out http://www.TheInnerRealm.tv it’s free and its a great motivational DVD for athletes, coaches, teams and corporations.
