Recap of Pedro’s Judo Challenge

==========
Introduction
==========

Saying that its cold is a SERIOUS understatement.

When I left sunny Boca Raton, Florida this morning is was approximately 85 degrees. Everyone on the airplane was complaining about how hot it was on the plane. Believe me when I tell you that all the complaining about the heat seized when we landed in Boston at Logan Airport.

It was a nice and bitter 26 degrees.

As I stepped off of the plane and on to the connective walkway to enter the airport terminal, I could hear the wind as it howled and swirled and proceeded to greet me by biting me on my right ear, stomping its way about my teeth and then kicking me on the left side of my neck.

I hurried into the terminal and let out a healthy “%$%^&&@!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

It was so cold that all I could do is get excited that I was inside…. Inside of the warmth, I was so consumed that I was warm that I walked through the airport, looking for the “GROUND TRANSPORTATION” area without even stopping to put on my coat. I made my way through the airport maze and reached the doors to go outside. When they opened….. BOOM!!

The wind, this time kicked me in my chest, knocked me to the floor and stopped on my neck.

I turned around and immediately put on my coat.

For this reason, I have a pain in my chest and throat right now.

I’m doing a judo clinic tomorrow with Jimmy Pedro and I’m really not sure, exactly how I’m going to pull this off. The weather has issued quite a beating to the Judo Crusader and I’m just trying to “weather” the storm.

I’ll try to stop by a pharmacy in the morning so that I can get some meds to medicate this @$$ beating that the weather has given me.

Pedro’s Judo Challenge
==================

The Judo Crusader is not only doing the clinic tomorrow, but he also came to the Pedro’s Judo Challenge tournament in Wakefield, Mass.

And here’s my review of the tournament.

The tournament was ABSOLUTELY phenomenal and VERY WELL run and organized. As soon as I arrived, I met Jimmy Pedro and he was visibly tired from the hectic schedule and from the tournament organizing ‘wear and tear’ but he was upbeat and very hospitable. He immediately and personally ushered me to the Pedro’s Judo Challenge hospitality area where it was absolutely “LAID OUT”.

I’ve been to several tournaments before where they just provide you with a couple of tasty vittles and that’s it, but not here.

There was plenty of everything. Water, soda, juice, muffins, fruit, Ziti and Sausage, Chicken with Broccoli, Rice and Vegetables, Lasagna, Vegetable Primavera, Salad w/dressing, rolls w/butter, pizza, and ziti with shrimp. And the cool thing is this……. THE FOOD NEVER RAN OUT. The referees and the staff were very well taken care of and it was greatly appreciated it. I heard so many people speaking about how impressed they were with the food provided at the tournament. I can tell you that I was surprised to.

I’ve been to plenty of tournaments where the treatment was less than stellar.

As for the tournament itself. It was a very very good tournament and, I’m sure, more difficult than some of the players would have like for an E Level tournament to be. It had most of the top players in the United States present and there was a good number of international players as well.

The heavyweight division was especially exciting where the 2004 Olympian, and a good fried on The Judo Crusader’s, Barry Jackman was present. Barry, blistered through the division taking first place by beating all those present and by beating US Heavyweight Daniel McCormick pretty handily.

In the 81 kg division Aaron Cohen looked super sharp as he demonstrated his superior level of expertise to the competition field. He was challenged only by St. Leger and that was only until Aaron turned up the heat. Aaron was a gentleman and a good sport during the first match when St. Leger’s arm was caught in a compromising position. Instead of pouncing on his arm, winning the match and definitely hurting him. Aaron stopped, let the arm go and won the match. There was less than 3 seconds left and Aaron’s illustration of mercy was in the spirit of good sportsmanship and it showed that he knows when to turn it up and when not to.

As Aaron was fighting, the number one competitor in that division, Travis Stevens was on hand and Travis was watching the action while enjoying the tournament himself.

Although I can’t sit down and write about everything I will give you some highlights of the event:

* Kaitlyn Bouyssou won her division and a couple of days ago she also was the first women to win the state wrestling championships in her division. She competed against all males!!! Her dad Serge was very proud. Kaitly is SUPER TOUGH!!! And could be the first female Judoka to represent the US at the Olympics in both Wrestling and Judo.

* Nanoushka St. Pierre was back on the mat in the heavyweight division

* Rick Hawn blistered through the 90 Kilogram division with NO PROBLEM!!

* Lia Hatashita was on hand at the tournament looking as stellar as ever (Go Lia!!!) :-) LOL!!

* Jason Morris showed once again why he’s one of the best coaches in the United States. His passion for the sport surpassing understanding at times, but we all know that he’s very PASSIONATE about the sport.

* I was surprised to see Natalie Lafon, now fighting for JMJC (Jason Morris Judo Club).

* The talk of the tournament was why Justin Flores and Taraje Williams-Murray didn’t compete at the Otto World Cup in Germany this passed weekend

* Kayla Harrison showed why she’s one of the toughest women in American Judo today by steamrolling over the competition

* Asma Sharif is coming off of a recent surgery and it looks like she’s got nothing but fire and desire in her eyes as she’s training to get back to top form as quickly as possible.

All in all the tournament was fun, it was exciting and a great experience. I was super impressed that so many people came in spite of a huge snow storm that occurred yesterday. It was a phenomenal tournament.

Here’s What New In the life and times of The Judo Crusader

Auto Date Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

==========
What’s New
==========

The Judo Crusader is training Thiago Alves for his upcoming fight against Karo Parisyan on the 2nd of April at UFC Fight Night. We all know that it is more than difficult to teach someone the whole game of Judo in 6 weeks, but Thiago will have the opportunity to receive THE BEST Judo for MMA instruction available and we will work on the defenses and the positioning requirements in order for him to have the best possible outcome against Karo Parisyan.

It’s no secret that The Judo Crusader is a huge fan and friend of Karo Parisyan, but the Judo Crusader is also a member of American Top Team so we have to do what we have to do.

The Judo Crusader had an opportunity to speak with Karo about the situation and both he and Karo agree that it’s not how we wouldv’e written the script, but it’s business.

With that being said, I really think that Karo will be very surprised at Thiago preparedness. Thiago is a fast learner and I believe that he will be the first and only individual who has competed against Karo who will be able to neutralize his throws.

The Judo Crusader has studied Karo for days on end now and is pretty confident in his assessments and the implementaton of the grappling plan for the fight. But there are sooooo many aspects to MMA and grappling is only one of the.

In the near future I’ll post some videos of some of the training. As for right now, we are just preparing and getting ready.

Great Video

For those who do not know, The Judo Crusader is here to eradicate the lines which separate and segregate martial artists. It is my desire for all of us to come together and celebrate our difference, our diversity and the things which we have to offer. I don’t believe one style is better than the other. I believe that every style has its merit and it serves the desired purpose of the practitioner.

With that being said. I’d like to share a video with you.

If you love throws, you’ll love this…
