I Fly Now These Days
===============

Most of you know that I fly now most of the time these days. Because of my sweet looking suit and my cape, I’m able to take about 3 to 4 steps, jump up in the air and take off and fly. But yesterday instead of flying I decided to use my “wheels” and run with two of the best Mixed Martial Artists in the world today.

The Judo Crusader was invited to go running with Denis Kang and Marcus Aurelio. Now please understand that The Judo Crusader has not run AT ALL in the past 8 months. But….. The Judo Crusader ain’t no punk  :-)    (or maybe he’s just dumb)  :-)

Well, we all went to a park that had some pretty good hills and we ran a little more than 3 miles of hills. To say that I am hurting today would be a serious understatement.

It was fun, but it HURT like hell.  I’ll be back next week. I can’t wait.  I want to  do that run about 2 times a week so that I can get in shape to line up. Now I’m not saying that I will line up, but I want to get in shape to line up.  ;-)

What’s New
===============

I’m kind of upset about some things that I’ve been hearing about Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.  It was made aware to me that UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson was flown out to Ireland for the last UFC on coach.  None of the UFC champs fly coach class. I’m really not sure why they made Mr. Jackson fly coach. I’m sure that they would not have flown Chuck Liddell in coach, but it seemed to be okay for Quinton. I’m not sure why.

I’m also not sure why the UFC required for Quinton’s first title defense and 3rd fight to be against one of the best fighters in the world.  It’s almost like the UFC does not want him to be the champion.

Well, The Judo Crusader knows what fair and what isnt’ and this really doesn’t look like it is right nor fair.

The Judo Crusader especially does not like the disrespect which is being shown to the Champ.

So The Judo Crusader is going to try to do his best to help Rampage for his next fight. I’m in the process of trying to get in touch with some individuals so that I can go out and help Rampage prepare for his next fight.  Denis Kang said that he is down to go help him prepare to. And we’re willing to go on our own dime.

We want to see Rampage hold the title for a long time. And I know that I’ll do what I can to help him.

Dan Henderson has enough belts  :-)

Up, up and awayyy.

P.S. If you have an opinion on this post or the Quinton Jackson situation, please leave a comment below.

Boy, Oh Boy am I TIRED!!!!

Sheesh, I’m pooped. I was on the Judo mat for 8 hours yesterday.

8 FREEKIN’ hours training and coaching.

The Judo Crusader worked his butt off, but he had too.

You’ve gotta work if you want to grow the sport of judo and deliver “real” judo to the individuals who are running grassroots programs so that they know and realize that there is more information that they have to get in order to become knowledgeable about the sport of Judo.

Day One
===========

I taught some basic gripping skills and I had a session on half guard techniques from the top. I also did some strategy work with the referees and the the kids about how to win a Judo match without really doing any judo.

===========
Today
===========

Today I will do a lot of matwork techniques and then call it a wrap  :-)

Rant

Whatdafuxup with all of the judo people coming to clinics with video cameras?  There are some things that I do allow them to record, but I usually ask them to cut the cameras off and they get pissed.  Look! If you want a video or a DVD then pay for one. If you want a clinic, pay for one, if you want a private lesson, pay for one. Right now, you’re at a clinic.

At a  clinic, you will get one or two gems that you can go home with and probably the unction to buy or not buy some of the products of the clinician, but YOU CAN’T sit there and record training sessions of techniques that people get paid to teach. That’s the equivalent of recording a movie in the movie theatre.

All of hard work that it takes to develop, hone, and teach a technique are skills that most of us clinicians have mastered so that we can make a living.

Please cut the cameras off and stop stealing from my family    >:-|

Your CHEAPNESS pisses me of as well as your willingness to want something for NOTHING! You cannot learn nor grow your judo or the sport like that.

(okay, now that I’ve got that off my chest, I’m leaving the hotel now to go to a clinic).  :-)

Take care,

What’s Happening
This Morning
==============

This is my first day of instruction at “The Greatest Camp On Earth” and I must say that upon my arrival I was surprised, shocked and very pleased with the hospitality, the treatment and the way that the staff here has bent over backwards to make sure that I’ve had and will have everything that I need.

The people are friendly and eager to learn.

Last night I did an impromtu session of sweeps and guard passes and today I’m teaching how to pass the half guard, which they call leg entaglement in Judo.
And then I’ve having a second session on Grip Fighting.

It should be sweet. I’ll keep you posted.

Accumulation?

Introduction
=============

I’ve been practicing and training and I’m, once again, back in the weight room. I’m not making any type of comeback, but I would like to do a competition or two (wink, wink) just to tussle around a little bit. So, yep, I’m training. Albeit at a different level than before but I’m training. Jusssssssttttt, a lil’ bit.   ;-)

New Piece of Equipment
============

I purchased an Airdyne bike for my home and I absolutely love it. I fell in love with the Airdyne bike when I was at the Olympic Training Center. The Greco Roman wrestlers used to swear by the machine and tell me that it would create unbelieveable upper body endurance and they were right. It does. I don’t even use my legs, just my upper body and it is sweet for your core and for gripping. It is a great tool for grapplers in my opinion

==============
Question of the day…..
Accumulation?
==============

“Rhadi I read you previous post and I understand it very well, but I’m having some difficulties with the Accumulation portion. Exactly what am I supposed to be accumulatiing?”  – Keith P.

Keith,

Thanks for your question bro. and it is a damn good question because every Monday and Thursday I roll my garbage can out to the curb so that the garbage collectors can come and pick up all of the GARBAGE that I’ve ACCUMULATED during the week. And although I’ve accumulated a lot of stuff – it’s still garbage.

Many people get duped into believing the stuff that they are taught will work, that its “real” and that it is effective. And what happens is that they end up accumulating garbage. Stuff that has no value or no real use or applicability.  This is common place in sport and is a great challenge for many athletes and coaches to deal with.

When I was training for Judo competitions and utilizing Brazilian Jiujitsu as a cross training mechanism, I would train everything and then compartmentalize the stuff that was immediately useful and the stuff that wasn’t. I had a very good instructor (Lloyd Irvin) who took the time to EXPLAIN to me, that that which I thought was GARBAGE really wasn’t garbage, but that it wasn’t currently relevant to me. And then he took the time to teach me some things that were actually garbage, but things that other people teach so that I would know the difference between THE REAL and THE FAKE.  Essentially, I didn’t discard anything. Even the garbage, I kept. This is quite different than the trash that put on the curb every Monday and Thursday because those things are accumulated durable goods.  The non-durable goods such as KNOWLEDGE will always be useful and it is YOUR greatest resource.

In your Accumulation process, make sure that you accumulate as much knowledge as possible, with the understanding of what is relevant in a total sense, an immediate sense and a tertiary sense. Like I said before, I absolutely love my Airdyne machine, but that is not going to help me escape out of the triangle choke if I don’t “know” the escape.

Grappling is not PHYSICAL, but VISCERAL.  When this is understood, then and only then will people understand the complete essence of The Judo Crusader.

Up, up and Awayyyyyy,

Rhadi Ferguson (a.k.a.  “The Judo Crusader”)

P.S. Accumulate the right knowledge at the right time and do the APPROPRIATE exercises to find out what is necessary RIGHT NOW and what is necessary LATER. This can certainly be accomplished and I’ve already created a easy-to-follow package that will do it for you. If you go to http://www.goldmettleplanpackage.com you will find the tools that you need so that you can create a path for Success.

P.P.S. You can continue doing what you are doing….. or you can come fly with me.  :-)

The 4 Secret Things That You MUST Do If You Want To Be Successful At Judo

Auto Date Sunday, June 10th, 2007

===============
      Introduction
===============

Many times you’ve heard the Judo Crusader speak about creating a plan for yourself.  But it seems no matter how much I talk about it, people take it lightly and they do not take the words of The Judo Crusader seriously. I’m not sure why. But I do know this. I can ONLY tell you. It’s up to you to ‘make it happen’.

I’ve come to grips with the fact that 97% of the people will complain about why they can’t do bigger and better things, but they will not do what is neceesary to achieve greatness.  I’m really not sure why this is.

I truly believe that some people are afraid of winning, leading, being the best, being in the spotlight, whipping butts, kicking a__, knowing more, getting better or achieving great things.  Maybe its not fear, maybe it’s that people just don’t know what to do. Well, here’s the deal……

The Judo Crusader was recently on an airplane and he was reading a book called “The Strategy Paradox” by Michael Raynor.  This book was absolutely phenomenal. So phenomenal that The Judo Crusader immediately ordered the book as soon as the plane landed. I had to have it. And I’ll tell you why.

Michael Raynor, in The Strategy Paradox, talked about 4 things in his book that I have, can, do and will continue to apply to Judo. And I’m telling you this because I want you to apply it to you judo career as well, no matter if you are a coach or athlete. The beautiful thing about this is that I cover some things which are very similar to this, yet more extensive in my groundbreaking work The Gold Mettle Plan.

The Gold Mettle Plan was created for that 3% of the popluation that want to excel and that have a burning desire to…

  • Discover exactly how the pros seem to effortlessly win nearly every match they play!
  • Finally figure out why you’ve been losing at the time that you know you should be winning (Hint: Just using one or two of the ultra-effective tactics in “The Gold Mettle Plan” will prevent this from happening ever again)!
  • Discover killer strategies that you can use to slaughter your competition and effortlessly win match after match!
  • Learn the exact steps you need to take to start winning 80-90% (or more) of the competitions you attend!
  • Discover how to CREATE A STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK FOR ACTION so that you can knock down the competition like bowling pins
  • Find out to what extent coaches, friends, family and loved ones should and should not play a part in the your mission towards success
  • Beat your opponents FASTER, EASIER, and IN LESS time than you ever thought possible!

It’s about that and much more and is a PHENOMENAL piece of work.

But not to get off track, because I love the Gold Mettle Plan, let me tell you about what Michael Raynor taught me in a plane ride home. Let me tell you…..

====================
The 4 Secret Things That You
MUST Do If You Want To Be
Successful At Judo
====================

Thing #1 – ANTICIPATE

In judo, just as in life, you need to develop scenarios for the future. As you watch film and video and prepare for matches, you NEED to anticipate the outcome of what your competitor may do or may try to do. You need to anticipate what may happen when you planned strategies works and/or when it doesn’t work.  This is oh-so important. Some of you just believe that you have to pre-plan and you know what? You’re right. But RIGHT NOW, your pre-planning approach is LIMITED by your currently knowledge base. DO NOT ALLOW YOUR LIMITATIONS to limit you. Break beyond your limitations to make sure you can reach higher level of understanding. When you do this, you will understand the process of Anticipation Planning and the process of futuring.

It Is Always Wise To Look Ahead,
But Difficult To Look Further Than You Can See

Get the knowledge so that you may increase your vision.

Thing #2 – Formulate

You must create a strategic framework for action. You must formulate design and create a way (or a map) to get to your desired destination. Realize where you want to “end up” and how you want to get there.  More often than not, people don’t plan to fail, they fail to plan. You MUST formulate a optimal strategy for success. Without this, you are not training to win, nor are you training properly. In all honesty, you are flat out FOOLING yourself, plain and simple.

Sun Tzu said, “All men can see these
tactics whereby I conquer, but what none
can see is the strategy out of which victory is evolved.

Get the knowledge and information so that you can PROPERLY form a plan and formulate a STRATEGY for achieving greatness on the mat and in life.

Thing #3 – Accumulate

This is the most important piece of this piece of written articulation. You must acquire as much knowledge about your what is going to be required in order to make your “dream” a reality. And THEN you must GO GET THOSE THINGS!! If you know that you have to move and get better practice partners. Then freaking move!  If you know that you need help with gripfighting, then get the gripfighitng information that you need. If you know that you have to get in better shape, then get in shape. You MUST get and accumulate the things and resources that are necessary for your development and success on and off the mat.  If you must travel, then travel. If you must get your hands on another coach, then get one.

Do what it is that you NEED to do.

Thing #4 – Operate

Implement and put into motion everything that you’ve gathered, accumulated, formulated and envisioned. Like Nike says, “Just Do It”.
